for everyone
When we first moved to Fort Collins from San Francisco 6 years ago, we promptly began taking inventory of what Fort Collins did and didn't have.

It does have some great brew pubs. (Coopersmiths is our favorite.)
It doesn't have good Chinese or Thai food. (I'd have to rate the restaurants here as OK to poor.)
It does have a good bread store. (Great Harvest Bread Co.)
It doesn't have a good dessert restaurant. ... until now.

The Chocolate Cafe just opened up last month in Old Town, Fort Collins, just behind Mugs in the Armstrong Hotel. Rob and I have already visited it twice, and just a couple of nights ago my friend Leah and I went.

So far we've tried the chocolate molten cake, the brownies and ice cream, the key lime pie and the chocolate raspberry tort. All were delicious! (Though I thought the tort was a bit too sweet and Leah felt the same about the brownies. Rob, on the other hand, thought the brownies were just right.)

Our first time there we chatted with one of the co-owners of the cafe and he said that 95% of the desserts are made in house.

Woo Hoo!!!! Fort Collins feels like a "real" city now. ;-)

We have a buncha Great Harvest outlets in Honolulu as well.
And for desserts, there's the Cheesecake Factory, and ...
I'm rather partial to Chili's' Molten Chocolate Cake.
Looks like a little volcano, which is somewhat apropos around here.

Haven't found a Key Lime pie that I really like.
Although CostCo has one that's BIG and pretty good.
But my "Eating Plan" would be O So Ruined.

Aloha mai Nai`a.

We had a Great Harvest in Nashville for years or is it Good Harvest. We also have a cheese cake factor and about anything food wise you can think up. Great Arabic food since we have a decent Kurd and Iraq population from the first gulf war. But here in the little town of ashland city we got nada. We have a couple of coffee house which I perfer my Maxwell House. We got little old farmers that raise the best tomatoes, squash,ect..this side of the Mason Dixie line so I give them good Business all summer long. I have to drive to clarksville Tn near fort Campbell for my crablegs.

Huuuuummmm! Looks like a meal! This is the kind of desert you should save some space if you are having dinner, otherwise you would feel like a balloon that is about to explode! :-P

Nice pictures!

i think they're pretty reasonable. the molten cake is $6. i'd say prices range between $5 and $8. that's pretty much the same as you'd pay in a comparable restaurant but the desserts are a much better quality.

i haven't had their coffee so i'm not sure what it's like. ever since getting preggers with the girls i've had no interest in coffee. (i'm a tea person now.) peet's was a bit strong for my taste even when i did drink coffee, though. rob likes it. i'm pretty sure he gets peet's for the office.

Meg, then you can try Pickwick you can get it in Pilot Truck stop along the freeway 'cause I just couldn't find it in Walmart Supercenter or anywhere else. I love it too. But if I would talk about dinner I would prefer Southern BBQ ... Just outside of Charleston, NC where I happen to stay couple times I could find a nice Bessinger's BBQ

Last night we tried out a new little sandwich shop on north College. I hadn't planned on getting dessert afterwards, but when Rob mentioned it, who was I to disagree?!!

He got the Key Lime pie again. ($5)

This time I went with the chocolate ravioli. ($7) Yes, that's what I said, chocolate ravioli. (It was essentially nutella wrapped in a wanton and deep fried.) Unfortunately there were only 4 ravioli. I think 6 might have made me 50% happier. But it was quite yummy all the same. And it came with a generous side of butter-pecan ice cream.

for anyone that's interested, i've written a review on the restaurant and posted it in the colorado group.

it mostly says the same stuff i've said here, but it's in a review format.

Thanks for this - I realize now I need to try this place. Not sure about the chocolate raviolis though - sounds like a cardiac inducing treat lol.

P.S. I have to disagree that Sri Thai does not qualify as good Thai - have you tried their green curry in particular? Or that dish (forgot the name) where a quarter chicken is marinated in some sort of coconut milk sauce? Yum. And while I won't attempt to compare their offerings to SF's finest, the more Thai I try in various cities the more I like our own Sri Thai.

Well, the best Thai i've ever had was in Farmington Hills, Michigan. the second best was in San Francisco. (Sai Jai Thai is my favorite there.)

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with what each chef's specialty is as well as what the consumer has gotten used to. I've eaten at Sri Thai several times and have never had a more than OK experience. *shrug*
